Inhalation anesthesia in budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) is widely preferred in clinical practice due to rapid induction and recovery, as well as the ability to titrate anesthetic depth effectively. Isoflurane and sevoflurane are considered safe agents because of their low blood solubility and minimal metabolism; however, all inhalant anesthetics may cause dose-dependent respiratory depression and hypotension. Following intubation, oxygenation and ventilation must be closely monitored. Monitoring should include observation of sternal movements, assessment of reflexes, body temperature control, and ECG evaluation. Since anesthesia-related mortality occurs predominantly during the recovery period, postoperative monitoring is of critical importance. In conclusion, inhalation anesthesia in budgerigars can be performed safely when appropriate protocols, careful monitoring, and clinical experience.
