Abstract

D-glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD, EC 1.1.1.49), is an enzyme that controls the Pentose phosphate pathway. Within the pentose phosphate pathway, ribose-5-phosphate required for nucleic acid synthesis and oxidized NADP, which is crucial for defense against oxidative damage, are generated. In the study, it was aimed to measure blood G6PD enzyme activities, oxidative stress and hematological parameters in hair goats of different ages. Forty female hair goats kept under the same care and feeding conditions were used in the study. The study groups (n=10) consisted of 0-12 months, 1-2-year, 2-3 year and 3-4-year-old female hair goats. G6PD enzyme activities and hematological parameters in whole blood samples and TAS, TOS, OSI values in plasma were measured. G6PD enzyme activities per Hb were calculated by dividing the calculated G6PD enzyme activities by the Hb values. G6PD enzyme activities per Hb were 14,14; 15,43; 8,33, 8,95 (IU/g Hb) and OSI were 1.46, 0.67, 0.92, 0.84 in group 1, group 2, group 3 and group 4 respectively. G6PD enzyme activities per gram hemoglobin were found to be significantly higher than group 3 and 4 (P < 0.05). TOS and OSI in group 1 were found higher than group 2, 3 and (P < 0.05). The data obtained in the study is a reference value for G6PD enzyme levels in Hair goats. In addition, considering the relationship of G6PD with diseases and oxidative stress, it is thought that measuring G6PD enzyme activities in studies examining diseases and/or yield characteristics in goats will provide contribution to the field.
