Abstract

This research aimed to assess the morphological performance of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii in response to various organic materials (molasses, vermicompost, vinaigrette, and seaweed) and commercial fertilizers. The research employed a fully randomized experimental design, with 10% application doses for each treatment for a duration of 90 days. The study examined cactus diameter (mm), plant height (cm), and total biomass weight (g) on days 45 and 90. The data obtained from the research revealed that morphological parameters differed statistically significantly depending on the applied organic material. According to the results, among all applications, molasses application showed the best results with the highest diameter (26.73 mm), plant height (27.98 cm), and total weight (7.90 g) values. In addition, molasses application showed a significant increase of 54% in plant height compared to the control group. Vermicompost was determined to be the second most effective application after molasses in vegetative development; while the effects of seaweed and vinaigrette applications on cactus morphology remained relatively limited. The positive effect of molasses application is attributed to its role as a carbon source that promotes microbial activity in the rhizosphere region of cacti and increases the bioavailability of nutrients. In conclusion, it was determined that molasses application provided a high biomass increase affecting the production period in the cultivation of G. mihanovichii cactus.
