Abstract

Banana (Musa spp.), one of the major commercial fruit crops of the world, requires proper fertilizer management at critical stages of growth and development. However, farmers generally emphasize the application of primary macronutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), while secondary macronutrients and micronutrients receive comparatively less attention. Main objective of research was to assess the effects of foliar application of different concentrations of Sulphate of Potash and Calcium Nitrate on yield attributes and fruit quality of banana. An experimentwas conducted at Ratnanagar Municipality -13, Chitwan, Nepal, from March to June 2025 in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five treatments and four replications as follow; T1: Control (no spray), T2 (1.0% Sulphate of Potash + 0.25% Calcium Nitrate), T3 (1.0% Sulphate of Potash + 0.30% Calcium Nitrate), T4 (1.5% Sulphate of Potash + 0.25% Calcium Nitrate) and T5 (1.5% Sulphate of Potash + 0.30% Calcium Nitrate). The highest bunch weight was recorded in 1.5% Sulphate of Potash + 0.3% Calcium Nitrate (28.40 kg), while the lowest was observed in the control (24.68 kg). Among the treatments, T5- 1.5% Sulphate of Potash + 0.30% Calcium Nitrate recorded maximum finger length (27.38 cm), finger diameter (3.52 cm), bunch length (99.50 cm), second hand weight (3.65 kg), peel weight (56.20 g), pulp weight (97.00 g), finger weight (153.20 g), TSS (7.10 °Brix). Titratable acidity (0.20%) and Physiological loss in weight (11.15%) were recorded minimum in 1.5% Sulphate of Potash + 0.30% Calcium Nitrate. The present findings can be commercially used in making banana production more profitable by application of different concentrations of Sulphate of Potash and Calcium Nitrate in Ratnanagar-13, Chitwan, Nepal.
