The proliferation of automation technologies in agriculture has made smart greenhouse systems a prominent research topic at the heart of control engineering, energy efficiency, and digital transformation. The objective of this study is to ascertain the intellectual structure, thematic trends, and collaborative dynamics of the smart greenhouse automation literature through a comparative bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. In the analyzes made using VOSviewer version 1.6.20, co-authorship relationships between countries, bibliographic connections at the national level, keyword co-occurrence patterns and cooperation networks between authors were examined together. The findings reveal that China and the United States are central to global knowledge production, with both the number of publications and strong connectivity values in both databases. While the data obtained from the WoS database highlights the research trend focusing on control systems and energy optimization, the analysis of the data obtained from the Scopus database shows that Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring systems, machine learning applications, and data-driven automation approaches are becoming more and more prominent. Keyword co-occurrence analyses conducted with the same data show that smart greenhouse technologies are concentrated on the axis of energy efficiency and artificial intelligence; indicates a transformation from classical climate control to predictive and adaptive decision support systems. According to the authorship networks analysis, research activities are geographically dispersed, and smart greenhouse automation is evolving from being only a technical engineering subject to a multidimensional research field combined with sustainability and technology-based value creation.
