Space flights, which were previously limited to short distances, are now moving towards the goal of establishing permanent settlements such as Mars colonization within the scope of space tourism. However, this process brings with it various challenges such as microgravity, limited living resources and closed environment conditions. Therefore, ensuring sustainable food production in the space environment is critical for the success of long-term space missions. Microalgae and cyanobacteria resistant to extreme conditions have a significant potential in bioregenerative life support systems with their functions such as food production and waste management. The aim of this study is to present a bibliometric analysis of research articles published on microalgae-based life support systems. A search of the Web of Science database yielded 193 research articles published between 1980 and 2024. The data were analyzed using R Studio and Biblioshiny software. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis reveal that research on the subject has shown a significant increase especially since 2021. This increase is concentrated around themes such as on-site sourcing and closed-loop food systems. It is envisaged that the study will provide a bibliometric basis for future studies.
